Abstract
Few industrial and product designers are familiar with Generative Design and its possible benefits and limitations. This thesis is a work towards the understanding of what Generative Design with regards to Industrial Design and Product Design could be. The main quest of the thesis was to discover what are the main practices and current productions in the field of Generative Design in connection to Industrial and Product Design; and additionally what could be the possible opportunities for industrial and product designers in this area. To answer these research questions the work includes relevant literature research about basic facts related to Generative Design, techniques, inspirations, examples of products produced with the technique, the opinions of practitioners about Generative Design and future possibilities related to the field. Throughout the thesis opportunities in the field of Generative Design for industrial and product designers are presented. The aim of the thesis was to shed light into the subject and bring understanding about Generative Design in the industrial and product design community.
