Abstract

In local area networks, the physical downlink control channel (PDCCH) plays an important role in supporting efficient data transmission. Therefore it is necessary to investigate the performance of the physical downlink control channel in the local area networks and schemes which protect the PDCCH properly by mitigating the interference between cells. In this thesis work, we firstly introduced realistic modelling for a physical downlink control channel in a local area scenario. The physical downlink control channel modelling has been completed by the PDCCH manager model, the PDCCH resource allocation model and the PDCCH information reception model and the PDCCH manager model uses the link adaptation scheme to protect the control channel. Furthermore, three PDCCH-specific resource management schemes which also aim to mitigate interference between cells have been proposed: firstly an interference randomization schemes, secondly an interference orthogonalization scheme and thirdly an interference randomization within an orthogonal sub-band scheme. The performances of the PDCCH and PDCCH-specific resource management schemes were evaluated by means of simulation. And the performances of link adaptation scheme and the three resource management schemes were compared to find the solution for protecting the PDCCH from inter-cell interference.
