dc.description.abstract“The End of Shadows” is an auto-ethnographic thesis that questions the essence of cinematography. Cinematographers visually narrate films using different tools such as composition, lighting, color or movement. When doing this, it’s important to find the right angle, shade, hue or pulse. Author and cinematographer Pedro Torres León approaches this by self-reflection on his journey as a cinematographer, writing insights from conversations, reading literature and analysis of his own films. This led him to the hypothesis that observation is the essence of cinematography. Observation provides a cinematographer an educated criteria in image design. Light is the base of observation for cinematographers.en
