Abstract

Tämän taiteen maisterin opinnäytetyön aiheena on kotimaassa valmistettavan puisen ruokailutuolin suunnittelu Hakola Huonekalu Oy:lle. Tavoitteena oli suunnitella Etelä-Pohjanmaalla Jurvan alueella teollisesti sarjavalmistettava tuoli, joka täydentää Hakolan olemassa olevaa tuotemallistoa luonnollisella ja raikkaalla tavalla luoden asiakkaan brändille lisää sisältöä ja arvoa.

Aiheen valintaan vaikutti tekijän tarve monipuo-listaa osaamistaan tuotesuunnittelussa ja haastaa itsensä suunnittelemaan tuote, jota ei ollut aikaisemmin kokonaisuudessaan suunnitellut. Keskiössä tätä opinnäytetyötä kirjoitettaessa olivat myös ammatillisen tietotaidon lisääminen puumateriaaleista, puuhuonekalun tuotantomenetelmistä, kotimaisen huonekaluteollisuuden mahdollisuuksista, ekologisesti ja eettisesti kestävästä muotoilusta sekä istuinergonomiasta.

Opinnäytetyön alussa käydään läpi aiheen taustoja historian, kotimaisten puutuolien ja materiaalin ominaispiirteiden näkökulmasta. Tämän jälkeen perehdytään asiakasyrityksen Hakola Huonekalu Oy:n historiaan, arvoihin, tuotemalliston kehitykseen ja tulevaisuuden visioon. Sen jälkeen esitellään tuotteelle asetettuja tavoitteita suunnittelijan ja toimeksiantajan näkökulmasta sekä asiakasyrityksen muotoilutoimeksianto. Näille pohjatiedoille perustuva suunnitteluprosessin kuvaus eli produktiivinen osa on tämän opinnäytetyön ydin. Konseptista tuotteeksi-osiossa, Ideointi ja luonnosvaiheen jälkeen, kerrotaan prosessiin olennaisesti liittyneestä tiiviistä yhteistyöstä tekijän ja suunnittelijan välillä.

Arviointi-osiossa kerrotaan työn onnistumisesta opinnäytetyön laatijan näkökulmasta ja referoidaan asiakkaan arviota.

The topic of this master’s thesis is the design of wooden dining chair for Hakola Huonekalu Oy. The aim was to design a chair that can be industrially manufactured in the Jurva area in Southern Ostrobothnia. The chair should complement Hakola’s existing product line in a natural and fresh way, adding more content and value to the customer’s brand.

The choice of topic was influenced by the author’s need to diversify his product design expertise and challenge himself to design a product that had not been completely designed before by himself.The focus of this thesis was also on increasing professional knowledge of wood materials, wood furniture production methods, the potential of the domestic furniture industry, ecologically and ethically sustainable design and seating ergonomics.

At the beginning of the thesis the background of the topic is examined from the perspective of history, Finnish wooden chairs and material. After that, the thesis focuses on the history, values, development of the product range and vision for the client company Hakola Huonekalu Oy. It then introduces the product goals from the designer and client point of view as well as the design brief. The description of the design process based on these knowledges, i.e. the productive part, is at the core of the thesis. The concept-to-product section, after the idea and sketch phase, explains the close collaboration between the maker and the designer that is essential to the process.

The evaluation section describes the success of the thesis from the author’s point of view and references the client’s assessment.
