Abstract

This thesis looked into lecturers and students’ experiences and accommodations in Aalto University School of Business. The aim was to create awareness and start a dialogue on learning difficulties in higher education and especially in the competitive business school context. To reach this, this thesis used qualitative methods, where 10 semi-structured interviews took place. 7 lecturers who lecture in the business school and 3 learning services personnel were interviewed. To voice student’s views, an autoethnography was conducted, due to difficulty of finding students who fit the research criteria. The interviews took place online and were recorded, later turned into transcripts and pseudonymised. Thematic analysis was chosen as the analysis method as it supported the research through dividing findings into themes and sub themes. Based on the findings it is evident that there still is a lot of stigma and unawareness on learning difficulties from the lecturer’s side. However, the overall attitude towards learning difficulties is seen as positive. This leads to students having varying experiences with getting their accommodations with lecturers which all effects the creation of students’ self-efficacy. Learning services provided interesting insights on business school students having most individual study arrangements but using the least of study psychology services. Overall, the study showcases there still is a lot to be done to reach full accessibility for all students.
