Abstract
Kuvataidekasvatuksen opinnäytetutkielma tarkastelee ympäristön poliittista ulottuvuutta kouluopetuksessa sekä analysoi metsäsektorin tuottaman metsäkasvatusmateriaalin diskursseja. Opinnäytteen motiivi ja tutkimusasetelma nousevat ympäristö- ja taidekasvatuksen törmäyksestä luonnonvarakamppailujen ja luontokäsitysten todellisuuteen. Opetuksen ympäristöpoliittisina ongelmakohtina tutkielma erittelee muun muassa kasvattajan neutraaliuden kuvitelman, kestävän kehityksen käsitteen ristiriitaisuuden, yksilökeskeisyyden sekä tyytymisen tiedostamisen puheeseen. Kuvataidekasvatuksen suhteen on vaikea saada isoa kuvaa ympäristöpoliittisesta näkökulmasta koko kentällä, alan tutkimus on painottanut enemmän subjektiivista luontosuhdenäkökulmaa eikä niinkään esimerkiksi läpäisevää ympäristönäkökulmaa kaikessa tekemisessä. Puheissa on epävarmuutta siitä, miten taidekasvatuksen tulisi tässä ekokriittisessä maailmantilanteessa toimia. Yhteiskunnallista tavoitepuhetta esiintyy, mutta se, kuinka tavoitteisiin päästään, jää kasvattajayksilön omaksi näkemykseksi. Tavallaan siis kaikki kuvataidekasvatuksen ehdotukset ovat tavoitteen täyttymistä ja sitä elämäntapaa ja maailmasuhdetta, jota tavoite edellyttää. Tutkielman diskurssianalyysiaineisto muodostuu Suomen Metsäyhdistyksen Metsä puhuu -kampanjan kasvatusmateriaaleista ja Suomen metsämuseo Luston Metsäsuhteita-hankkeen diskursseista. Niistä on havaittavissa muun muassa hegemonisen kansallisdiskurssin eri muoto-ja sekä hyveelliset metsänhoitodiskurssi, kestävyysdiskurssi ja innovaatiodiskurssi, joiden kautta luodaan oikeutusta teollisuudenalan toiminnalle. Voimistuva metsäsuhdediskurssi on tutkielman näkökulmasta kansallisdiskurssin ja -identiteettiprojektin päivitetty muoto. Tutkielma pohtii myös metsäsuhdekertomusten todistusvoimaa ja oikeuttavuutta. Metsäsuhdediskurssi on luonnonvarakamppailujen intressiristiriitoja ja ekokriisiä häivyttävä puhetapa, jossa metsäsuhde esitetään moniarvoisena, subjektiivisena ja siksi kiistämättömänä. Tutkielma esittää, että on hyvä tulla tietoiseksi metsädiskurssien sisältämien representaatioiden vaikutuksesta luontokäsityksiimme ja todellisiin metsäelinympäristöihin. Metsäsektorin kasvatusmateriaalien metsäsuhdediskurssi on läpeensä itsevarma, mitä vasten ristiriita kuvataidekasvatuksen (ja taiteen) epävarmuuteen suhteessa ekokriisin ratkaisemiseen on kiinnostava. Tutkielma pohtii lopuksi, millaisia keinoja kuvataidekasvatuksella voisi metsäpolitiikkaan olla, etenkin jos metsäkäsityksemme alkaa olla sen värittämä. Koska metsäpoliittista kamppailua sen oikeutuksesta käydään jatkuvasti diskurssien ja representaatioiden tasolla, taidekasvatus voi tutkielman päätelmien mukaan ainakin olla toistamatta kestämättömiä valtadiskursseja tai luoda vaihtoehtoisia puhetapoja ja representaatioita metsäteollisuuden mielikuvavaikuttamiselle.The MA thesis of art education examines the political dimension of environment in school education and analyzes the discourses of forest education material produced by the Finnish forest sector. The motive and research setting of the thesis rise from the contradiction between environmental and art education, the power of forest policy and the discursive struggle of the notion of forest. As environmental policy issues in teaching, the thesis analyzes the educator's notion of neutrality, contradictions of sustainable development, individualism, and contentment with non-active awareness. With regard to art education, it is difficult to get a big picture of the use of the social-environmental perspective in the whole field. Research has emphasized the subjective aspect of the nature relationship rather than the permeable environmental aspect in everything (including arts) we do. There is uncertainty about how art education should function in this global ecocritical situation. There exists eco-social goal speech, but how the goals are achieved remains the educator's individual view: all the proposals for art education are kind of the fulfillment of the goal. The discourse analysis material of the thesis consists of the educational materials of the Finnish Forest Association's “Forest speaks” -campaign and the discourses of the “Relationships with the forest” -project launched by the Finnish Forest Museum Lusto and funded by the forest sector. The study shows that both projects include various forms of hegemonic national discourse. Also, the virtuous discourses on sustainability and innovation create legitimacy for industrial forest management. The intensifying forest relationship discourse is an updated form of the national discourse and identity project. The thesis also considers the probative value and legitimacy of forest relationship reports. The forest relationship discourse is a way of passing conflicts of interest and the eco-crisis in natural resource struggles: the forest relationship is performed pluralistic, subjective and therefore incontrovertible. The thesis suggests that it is good to become aware of the impact of the representations contained in forest discourses on our perceptions of nature and real forest habitats. The discourses in education materials by the forest sector is completely confident. The contradiction between the uncertainty of art education (and art) discourses, how to solve the eco-crisis, is interesting. Finally, the thesis considers, what kind of means could art education have for forest policy, if our conception and representation of forests is beginning to be shaped by it. As the forest policy struggle for its legitimacy is constantly taking place at the level of discourses and representations, the thesis concludes that art education can at least not repeat power discourses. It can also create alternative discourses and representations in contrast to the forestry.Description
