Abstract

Monitoring of the respiration is one of the most important tasks in clinical medicine. There are different parameters of breathing that can be monitored. In this thesis, we are focusing on the respiratory airflow waveform and the information on the breathing cycle, which are usually acquired using airflow meter. Here, we are proposing the use of tri-axial accelerometer and tri-axial gyroscope in the task of the unobtrusive respiration monitoring. We found out that by using normalization and low pass filtering in a correct way, it is possible to obtain the respiratory airflow waveform as well as the duration of the breathing cycle from mechanical signals. The clinical use in the task of breathing diseases diagnoses (e.g. COPD or sleep apnoea) is the topic of the further research.
