Abstract

Tämä taiteen maisterin opinnäyte tutkii, miten tutkimuksellinen tieto syntyy ihmisen ja teknologian välisessä yhteistyössä, ja miten tätä yhteistyötä voidaan soveltaa taiteellisen tutkimuksen menetelmänä. Työ sisältää kirjallisesta osan ja produktio-osan, joka esitetään osana opinnäytetyön tekstiä. Kirjallinen osa analysoi kuvallisen tiedon tuottamisen prosesseja ja menetelmiä ihmisen ja teknologian välisessä yhteistyössä sekä arvioi kuvan indeksisyyden merkitystä tieteelliselle ja taiteelliselle tutkimustyölle. Työn produktio-osa käyttää tieteellisten tutkimuksen piirissä kehitettyjä kuvallisen tiedon tuottamisen menetelmiä ja soveltaa niitä taiteelliseen tutkimukseen. Opinnäyte ehdottaa, että ihminen ja teknologia vaikuttavat yhteistyössä siihen, millaisilla tavoilla kuvallisesti esitettävä tieto ja sen indeksiset piirteet voivat tulla näkyviksi sekä millaisten syy-seuraussuhteiden merkiksi kuvan indeksisyys mahdollisesti käsitetään.

This thesis explores how knowledge is generated through the collaboration between humans and technology, and how this cooperation can be applied as a method in artistic research. The work includes a written part and a production part, which is presented as part of the thesis text. The written part analyzes the processes and methods of producing information and knowledge in a visual format in collaboration between humans and technology, and evaluates the significance of the indexicality of images for scientific and artistic research. The production part of the thesis employs methods developed within the scope of scientific research and applies them to artistic research. The thesis proposes that humans and technology collaboratively influence the ways in which visually presented information and knowledge and its indexical characteristics can become visible, as well as how this indexicality of an image may be understood in terms of cause-and-effect relationships.
