Abstract

Healthcare sector in Finland, like in many other countries is under significant pressure due to aging population, limited resources and the demands of ongoing change. Various digital health systems are being explored as a potential solution to address these challenges. This research studied the value of remote patient monitoring systems in the treatment of movement disorders, focusing especially on patient experience and perspectives. Using a qualitative research approach data was collected through surveys and interviews, in collaboration with the Finnish Movement Disorder Association. It was discovered that the remote patient monitoring solutions can support treatment and improve quality of life factors as part of an integrated care process. From a patient-centered perspective key factors included the usability and overall acceptability of the technology. It was also found that the broader adoption of remote monitoring for movement disorder care in Finland remains very limited and relies heavily on the patients own activity. Key insights highlighted the need for user-friendly systems and the importance of integrating patient experience into care planning. The results provided new insights for the patient centered development of remote monitoring solutions and highlights opportunities to promote valuebased healthcare.
