Abstract
This thesis focuses on the design and development of a Dual Active Bridge DC-DC converter using Gallium Nitride devices. The goal is to have a compact, lightweight, and efficient design capable to deliver 5 kW power. The thesis discusses systematic steps for the design of the hardware and goes through multiple iterations in the design to reach the goal. The thesis discusses an initial design with poor PCB layout and transformer design, which led to failure. The learnings from which were used to design a revised design which performed significantly better except for high losses in the switch. A third design was built using a modular technique. This design incorporated all the learnings from the previous two designs and was able to achieve an efficiency above 96 % up to 1.5 kW of power transferred.Description
