This thesis project proposes a method of access control for different devices using Bluetooth. Currently, most access methods require physical contact to a device such as a swipe-card or push button. Bluetooth is a wireless technology that could he used to replace such methods providing the convenience of wireless access control. The purpose of this thesis is to demonstrate, by creating one application, that such a concept is feasible. Bluetooth wireless technology is an open specification for a low-cost, low-power, short-range radio technology for ad hoc wireless communication of voice and data. This thesis is about using Bluetooth technology for communication between different devices to perform the desired communication tasks effectively. The sample application developed in this thesis involves the opening and closing of a relay using a mobile Bluetooth node, which is a mobile phone having an application written in Java MIDP2.0. The relay is operated by the signals from static Bluetooth node which is a programmable Bluetooth device having an infinite looped code written in C, running forever and searching for the pair-able mobile Bluetooth nodes and then performs actions according to the signal received from the mobile phone. The programmable Bluetooth device is available for development purposes.en
