Abstract
Objectives The main objectives of this research is to determine the leadership skills specific to the Finnish Defence Forces’ Reserve Officer Training Course, and the applicability of military training in international business. Summary This research focuses on military leadership skills, specifically in the case of the Finnish Defence Forces’ Reserve Officer Course (ROTC). Literature concerning military leadership was gathered from multiple nations, such as USA, UK and Israel. Additionally, leadership skills and practices were identified through primary research. Primary data was gathered via semi-structure interviews. The interviewees had three criteria: the completion of ROTC and leadership position in an organisation with international functions. Conclusions Military leadership training is considered useful in learning and practicing of multiple skills, including communication, expertise and problem solving. However, unique organisational structures and culture in armed forces necessitate the modification of these leadership practices outside of the military, emphasizing the need for cultural knowledge and awareness.Description
