Abstract
The scope of this thesis is to explore different methods, which could be used for quality improvement in a printing house. The economical situation in Finland at the time of creation of this the sis has created the need for quality improvement of the work processes in order to save resources and/or gain a better competitive edge. Graphic arts industry has already gained saves due automatisation during the last ten years, but these efforts have almost solely been targeting the pre-press department. Other sections of printing houses have not seen changes in such scale. The production processes in a printing house are very similar to those of traditional manufacturing industry. Even though other areas of manufacturing industry have acknowledged the meaning of production quality as a competitive factor, the same has been the case with graphic arts industry. This thesis studies the quality improvement methods used in other areas of manufacturing industry and explores the possibility to use them in a printing house environment. In the last part of the thesis these methods will be tested in a form of a case study.Työssä tutkitaan menetelmiä, joilla kirjapainon työprosessin laatua voitaisiin parantaa. Diplomityön kirjoitushetken taloudellinen tilanne Suomessa on luonut tarpeet prosessien laadunparannuksen avulla saavutettaviin säästöihin ja/tai kilpailuetuun. Graafisella-alalla on jo nähty automatisoinnin kautta saavutettuja kustannussäästöjä viimeisen 10 vuoden aikana, mutta ne ovat lähinnä kohdistuneet painopinnan valmistus- eli pre-press-osastolle. Kirjapainojen muissa prosesseissa ei yhtä merkittävää muutosta ole tapahtunut. Kirjapainon tuotantoprosessit ovat hyvin lähellä perinteistä valmistusteollisuutta. On merkillepantavaa, että vaikka muilla teollisuuden aloilla valmistuksen laatu on jo pitkään koettu kilpailuvaltiksi, ei vastaavaa kehitystä ole kirjapainoissa tapahtunut. Työssä on tarkoitus perehtyä muilla teollisuuden aloilla käytettyihin laadunparannuksen menetelmiin ja etsiä kirjapainon prosesseista kohteita laadunparannukselle. Työn lopussa käydään läpi laadunparannusprojekti case-yrityksessä.Description
