Abstract
This thesis examined how carbon accounting systems (CAS) and green incentives interacted to support the execution of carbon strategies and improve carbon performance in a carbon-intensive industry. Using a case study of Outokumpu, a global stainless steel producer, the study found that CAS acted as enablers of decision-making and performance monitoring, while green incentives supported managerial focus at the executive level. The findings highlighted the complementary roles of CAS and incentives and suggested that broader diffusion of incentives could have strengthened strategy execution. The study contributed to the literature by providing industry-specific insights and offered practical implications for improving sustainability control systems.
