Abstract

PURPOSE OF THE THESIS: The purpose of the thesis is to develop the Helsinki Component Factory's castings repair process of Metso Automation Flow Control business line in the changing operational environment. The tightened quality requirements and the custom tailored specialized valves have expanded the need for repairing castings when the quality does not match with the target level. Repair process is defined to be appropriate and efficient with taking into account all the operation of the factory. METHODS: The requirements and objectives are defined by literary research and with interviews. The most important targets for development are described and the situation is studied as a whole. The present situation is analyzed and compared to the desired target level. The means to improve the process and to accomplish the target level are defined. RESULTS: The repair process is specified and total process is developed to operate smoothly. In the initial state the lead-time was very long and the follow-up was difficult. The repairs cannot be given precise time for completion, because the lead time cannot be foreseen. The follow-up process is developed and lead-time is diminished which leads to more accurate time calculations. Also flow of information is developed and bottlenecks of the process are reduced. CONCLUSIONS: In the initial state the process was underdeveloped and a need for improvement was obvious. The change in the market situation and the demand being focused on specialized products created a need to change the old methods. The existing processes did not respond to the requirements the new situation had set. In the time of making this thesis the focal processes have been changed for more up to date, but development needs to be continued as the operational environment is in constant change.

TYÖN TARKOITUS: Työn tarkoituksena on kehittää Metso Automation Oyj:n Flow Control liiketoimintalinjan Helsingin komponenttitehtaan valosten korjausprosessia muuttuvassa toimintaympäristössä. Venttiilien tiukentuneet laatuvaatimukset ja asiakkaille räätälöidyt erikoisventtiilit ovat lisänneet tarvetta korjata valoksia, kun aihioiden laatu ei vastaa tavoiteltua tasoa. Tavoitteena on määritellä korjausprosessi tarkoituksenmukaiseksi ja suorituskykyiseksi tehtaan muu toiminta huomioon ottaen. MENETELMÄT: Kirjallisuus- ja haastattelututkimuksen perusteella määritetään prosessin vaatimukset ja tavoitetila. Tärkeimmät kehityskohteet esitellään ja tarkastellaan tilannetta kokonaisuutena. Alkutilaa analysoidaan ja verrataan haluttuun tavoitetilaan ja määritellään keinoja prosessin parantamiseen ja tavoitetilan saavuttamiseen. TULOKSET: Korjausprosessi määriteltiin ja prosessia kehitettiin kokonaisuutena sujuvammaksi. Alkutilanteessa prosessin läpimenoaika oli hyvin pitkä ja seuranta vaikeaa. Korjaustöille ei myöskään voitu antaa tarkkoja valmistumisaikoja läpimenoajan ennakoimattomuuden vuoksi. Seurantaa kehitettiin ja läpimenoaikaa pienennettiin, jolloin myös ennakoitavuus parani. Lisäksi tiedonkulkua parannettiin ja prosessin pullonkauloja vähennettiin. PÄÄTELMÄT: Prosessi oli alkutilassaan kehittymätön ja erilaisille parannuksille oli tarvetta. Markkinatilanteen muutos ja kysynnän kohdistuminen erikoistuotteisiin loi tarpeen muuttaa vanhoja toimintatapoja, koska olemassa olevat prosessit eivät enää vastanneet uuden tilanteen mukanaan tuomia vaatimuksia. Työn kuluessa keskeisiä prosesseja on päivitetty ajan tasalle, mutta kehitystyötä on tarpeen jatkaa toimintaympäristön jatkuvaan muuttumiseen sopeutumiseksi.
