Abstract
To talk about underdevelopment presents invariably an ontological position. This assumption strikes a pose that without any doubt enacts a political point of view. A site of reference (or starting point). In this dimension we can envisage geography, a lake that we want to give delimitation to section it, name it, give a sense to it. This project wants to take charge of the demarcation of a panorama, an aesthetic dimension, a visual field that wants to enclose in relation to the artistic production and a cultural research. Going from the general to the particular. Passing a general perspective through a prism, this being the peephole of an artist. In this case Martínez. The project consist of two parts that work in an almost symbiotic way. The first one developed through the work produced since 2013 with the statement "Art as Dogma". An interdisciplinary project consisting of a series of archives, sculptures, and installations that have as a main core the presentation of exercises made in situ, using a self-build point of view, and the use of precarious materials. Juxtaposing an anachronic state of history, the mass media, contemporary eventualities and a personal mythology. The second part of the project is the book named “Tecuani, A gibberish about underdevelopment” Embodied on this thesis, is a body of literature in the shape of book, containing essays, metaphors, aphorisms, quotes, poetry, and hyper-texted reflections. This in order to present the dialogue between the artist, the archive, the mass media, and the topics comprehended during the execution of "Art as Dogma". Giving a straight statement about the relation between aesthetics, politics, work and labour, underdevelopment, and colonization. Within the excuse of using this gibberish as an alternative way to acquire and share any knowledge, getting a refreshing turn to the anarchist texts or the Dadaist ones. Attempting and maybe not achieving the simple act communication, by getting lost trying to make the subject clear or clearer using an experimental way. This book could be similar to a glossary in order to understand the production of Martinez. His solipsist reflections and mythology throught a book for a rite. This work wants to unfold, and weave at the same time, a spider web of constructions positioned from underdevelopment. To look, and make visible, its own pros and cons. And, why not? Even making visible the missing lessons that might be out there. A reflexion upon the methods that conform diverse knowledge, or the collective learning willing to propose the emergency as the only state of creation, true creativity comes from need (any kind of need).Description
