Abstract

Process improvement through modelling has received increasing attention in recent years, and several attempts to provide a general methodology for process modelling projects have been published. Recently attempts to breach the gap between two fields of modelling, software and business process modelling have also been made. This thesis deals with the evaluation of four fundamental process modelling principles introduced for software process modelling in a novel context. The evaluation is conducted as a case study during which the process consultancy process of WM-Data Novo is improved through a process modelling project. The case study evaluated the suitability of the modelling principles in this novel context. Based on the experiences gathered in the case study, some improvement proposals are introduced to the principles and the methodology. The thesis, thus, serves the attempts to breach the gap between different process modelling disciplines, and contributes to the search for a general process modelling methodology.
