Abstract

This Master's Thesis research aims to create an app design to affect consumers' behavior of electricity consumption. This is done by carefully creating three different designs and using a quantitative analysis to test for differences between the designs in term of effectiveness in changing consumers' electricity-consuming behavior. Having an app that can effectively help in changing behavior of electricity consumption can help in increasing general energy effciency. To create effective app designs, we first analyzed apps that are currently used. We then analyzed ways to show environmental affection in a design and ways to actively engage consumers in changing their behavior. We performed a quantitative survey with 105 respondents, containing questions on Energy Literacy, electricity consumption and app usage. The results show no differences in the effectiveness of changing electricity-consuming behavior of the respondents between the three app designs.
