Abstract

Smart hydrogel is an enhanced type of hydrogel, a 3D polymer network, that can respond to different stimuli. It has been developed to become a potential platform for novel drug delivery systems, with the ability to target specific sites and control drug release. Together with hydrogel’s excellent physical properties and biocompatibility, these advantages can surpass the limitations of conventional drug delivery systems. In addition, integrations between smart hydrogels and state-of-the-art technology are currently in research, e.g., 4D printing, and have been showing promising outcomes, which further improving the state of smart hydrogel-based delivery systems in the future of medical treatments.
