Abstract
The paper’s central investigation revolves around the growing popularity of sustainable corporate practices as well as the growing presence of circular business models throughout the globe. The exploration interviewed three subjects, all of leadership positions from varying backgrounds; an SME specializing in procurement, a publicly traded cybersecurity company and the head of the urban development board of a small city in the south of Finland. The objective was to gain a professional understanding of the struggles and holdbacks which corporate leaders often face while striving for truly sustainable organizations. Key points raised included how external stakeholder pressure drives poor managerial decisions, the common misconception of sustainability having a ‘holistic’ approach to its implementation, and the greatly varying needs for successful sustainability implementation between larger and smaller firms. As per key discussions, the exploration of circular models utilized by successful and established businesses were analyzed and the circularity matrix was examined to help understand and recommend solutions for successful circular economy implementation.
