Abstract
Building Information Modeling (BIM) is playing an essential role in construction and structural design. In recent years, there has been a shift towards cloud-based solutions in the BIM field. As a powerful structural BIM desktop-based software, Tekla Structures (TS) is seeking new opportunities to build cloud-based solutions for TS data management and analysis. Among different categories of TS data, the thesis mainly focuses on Environment or Project Setting data. However, project setting data is complicated in nature and will pose great challenges for centralized data teams to manage and analyze. Moreover, there is a lack of a general data architecture tailored for TS data management and analysis. The thesis proposes the adoption of the data mesh architecture for managing and analyzing data within Tekla Structures. Initially, the construction of the data mesh follows the principles of Domain-Driven Design, with the Tekla Backbone Data Domain serving as the starting point. Within this domain, the Project Setting Operational Service is designed and implemented to manage project setting data. Additionally, the Project Setting Data Product is conceptually outlined as a source-aligned data product, aimed at serving analytical data to other data products or domains. This approach reduces the complexity associated with managing and analyzing project setting data, while also establishing a robust foundation for future integration into the data mesh. Project Setting Data Product meets all the criteria to be qualified as a well-designed data product. The design process yields valuable insights and guidance during the early stages of data mesh construction.Description
