Abstract
As the written report of the animated short film The Peel, this thesis intends to dive deeper into the inspiration, creative process, and art practices that lead to the final project. The Peel is an autobiographical narrative, mixed techniques animation, involving digital drawing, color pencil, pastel, embroidery animation, etc. It portrays the protagonist's journey from rejecting to accepting her inner child, symbolized by coinciding with the habit of biting her nails. From concept to production, this project is a journey of cultivating a sense of intimacy and groundedness within myself, which is not only represented in the storytelling but also through animation practices. The seeking of a sense of self-sufficient intimacy and grounded feelings composes the foundational motivation in the short film and the trajectory of this thesis. Accordingly, the thesis also works as a testament to the process of developing the animated language to embody memories and sensations.
