Abstract

This thesis research constitutes an exploration of how patterns of exclusion are conveyed and perceived through the visual language created by the cinematographer, from a western point of view and with a specific focus in the documentary film practice. A series of conversations with film professionals around the world aim to discover what aspects the filmmaker could address and be aware of when filming real people, in order to prevent issues of representation and other harmful practices, cultivating self-reflection in the personal and artistic space.
