Mahdollisuudet ja haasteet kiertotalouteen siirtymisessä rakennusalalla

Abstract

Tämä diplomityö tutkii kiertotalouteen siirtymisen mahdollisuuksia ja haasteita ra- kennusalalla. Siirtyminen aikaisemmasta lineaarisesta talousmallista uuteen, jossa rakennusalan tuotteet ja materiaalit eivät välttämättä päädy jätteeksi. Aiheen ajankohtaisuus on nähtävissä uusien toimintaratkaisujen tarpeessa ja sidosryhmien halukkuudesta olla mukana osana murrosta.

Työn alussa käsitellään kiertotalouden termistöä yhtenäisyyden vuoksi. Diplomityö keskittyy kiertotalouden periaatteiden tutkimiseen rakennusalalla. Se käsittelee kiertotalouden mahdollisuuksia ja haasteita, mukaan lukien resurssien tehokkaampi käyttö, kierrätys ja materiaalien uudelleenkäyttö. Työ tavoittelee rakennusalan ympäristövaikutusten, kuten kasvihuonekaasupäästöjen ja luonnonvarojen ylikulutuksen, vähentämistä sekä taloudellisen kestävyyden ja innovaatioiden edistämistä. Diplomityö korostaa myös kiertotalouden soveltamiseen liittyviä haasteita, kuten teknisiä ja lainsäädännöllisiä rajoituksia, markkinoiden vastaanottavaisuutta, investointitarvetta ja strategisen ohjauksen puutetta. Lisäksi se tarjoaa suosituksia näiden esteiden voittamiseksi ja korostaa kiertotalouden tärkeää roolia rakennus- alalla kestävän kehityksen edistämisessä.

Työ koostuu kirjallisuuskatsaudesta ja kvalitatiivisesta tutkimuksesta, jossa on haastateltu alan eri sidosryhmiin kuuluvia asiantuntijoita. Haastattelut ovat toteutettu puolistruktuurisella haastattelumetodilla.

This thesis examines the opportunities and challenges of transitioning to a circular economy in the construction industry. It moves away from the previous linear economic model to a new one, where the products and materials of the construction sector do not necessarily end up as waste. The relevance of the topic is evident in the need for new operational solutions and the willingness of stakeholders to be part of the transition.

The thesis begins with a discussion of circular economy terminology for consistency. It focuses on the study of circular economy principles in the construction industry. It addresses the opportunities and challenges of the circular economy, including more efficient use of resources, recycling, and reuse of materials. The work aims to reduce the environmental impacts of the construction industry, such as greenhouse gas emissions and overconsumption of natural resources, as well as to promote economic sustainability and innovation. The thesis also highlights the challenges associated with the application of the circular economy, such as technical and legislative restrictions, market receptivity, the need for in- vestment, and the lack of strategic guidance. In addition, it provides recommendations for overcoming these barriers and emphasizes the important role of the circular economy in promoting sustainable development in the construction industry.

The work consists of a literature review and qualitative research, which includes interviews with experts from various stakeholder groups in the field. The interviews were conducted using a semi-structured interview method.
