Abstract

This master´s thesis deals with possibilities to develop logistics in the recycling of paper and board in Finland. The objective of the study is to find out how to ensure well-working recycling logistics also in the future. The study provides an analysis of the efficiency of the customer order cycle of the company Paperinkeräys Oy as it is today, as well as an attempt to find ways to improve it. The company Paperinkeräys has been given the producer-responsibility of recycling on behalf of its owners. Due to that, the, the company cannot operate on a commercial basis alone. According to the study, the logistics of Paperinkeräys is efficient at present, but improvements are required in the future especially with regard to the smoothness of operations and information technology. The company invests less than one percent of its turnover into IT, which means that investments into this sector would be profitable. The most important thing is that all the necessary information is available for those who need it in the demand-supply chain of recycling materials. Furthermore, an examination of warehousing costs showed that intermediate storehouses between Paperinkeräys´ manufacturing units and the customer factories are very expensive to maintain, which reduces the profit margin of the business. On the basis of the research it can be suggested that the separate warehouses in the supply chain should be integrated either into Paperinkeräys´ manufacturing units or into the customer factories.

Tässä diplomityössä tutkitaan logistiikan kehitysmahdollisuuksia paperin ja pahvin kierrättämisessä Suomessa. Työn tavoitteena on selvittää miten kierrättämisen logistiikka saadaan vastaamaan tulevaisuuden haasteisiin. Tutkimuksessa analysoidaan kohdeorganisaationa toimivan Paperinkeräys Oy:n tilaus-toimitusketjun nykyinen tehokkuus ja tunnistetaan siihen kehitystoimenpiteitä. Paperinkeräys on velvoitettu hoitamaan tuottajavastuuta omistajiensa puolesta, jonka takia kaikkea toimintaa ei voi ajatella pelkästään liiketaloudelliselta kannalta. Tutkimuksen mukaan Paperinkeräyksen logistiikka on nykyisellään tehokasta, mutta tulevaisuuden haasteet vaativat erityisesti ketteryyden ja tiedonsiirron parantamista. Yrityksen panostukset tietojenkäsittelyyn ovat alle prosentin liikevaihdosta, joten tähän osa-alueeseen on kannattavaa panostaa enemmän. Tärkeintä on, että tarpeellinen tieto tilaus-toimitusketjussa on kaikkien sitä tarvitsevien käytössä. Varastointikustannusten tarkastelu paljasti, että välivarastointi Paperinkeräyksen tuotantoyksiköiden ja asiakastehtaiden välillä vähentää merkittävästi toiminnasta saatavaa katetta. Tutkimuksen pohjalta esitetään harkittavaksi toimitusketjun erillisten varastojen siirtämistä Paperinkeräyksen tuotantoyksiköiden tai asiakastehtaiden yhteyteen.
