Based on density and effective porosity measurements, a comparison between two saturation processes was made. One method was to saturate the rock specimens by immersion in water, the other was the ISRM suggested method for porosity and density determination using saturation and buoyancy techniques. Using the results from both measurements, it was found that the ISRM suggested method is not suitable for the determination of the effective porosity of the used specimens. The ISRM suggested method could only reach saturation levels up to 60 %. The method could be used for the determination of the density, however this is not advised. Using the ISRM suggested method to saturate rock specimens with water, might influence results for further mechanical properties tests.en
