Abstract

Indoor Positioning System (IPS) utilises several technologies such as sensors, cameras and communication systems to detect objects present in indoor surroundings. IPS-based services store indoor models in geolocation databases that include floor-maps, images and points-of-interest which is essential in the localization of users. In recent times, IPS-based services have witnessed a growing interest from the services industry because of the possibility of providing visibility to indoor locations, an area where the popular Global Position System (GPS) is generally lacking. However, as even more industries discover the unique offerings delivered by IPS-based services, indoor location service providers will be confronted with a wide range of information management challenges. This thesis aims to develop a web-based indoor information management system to enable the case company to manage and organise their localization data. This was achieved by incorporating the case company's localization API in the content management web application. Also, thorough background research into indoor localization technologies and web architectures was carried out. The final product is an intuitive and user-friendly indoor management web application. The web application provides a platform where buildings in different locations with indoor localization present are managed. The case company can leverage this web application to create locations that can include one or multiple floor plans. The web platform has the functionality of managing the locations where the case company's indoor localization is present. However, the web application can be further improved by adding functionalities such as an indoor walkable area and trace management. Furthermore, the web application can take advantage of the numerous benefits of single-page application which makes web-based applications look and function like desktop applications
