Abstract
Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkin elokuvaa, joka tapahtuu yhdessä tilassa ja sen draamallista rakennetta. Esimerkkielokuvana ja draama-analyysin kohteena on Sidney Lumetin ohjaama klassikkoelokuva 12 Angry Men (1957). Opinnäy-tetyössä keskityn pohtimaan, mitä draamallisia rakenteita yhdessä tilassa ta-pahtuva elokuva pitää sisällään. Käyn läpi lyhyesti kamarielokuvan historian, mikä toimii lukijalle historiallisena määritelmänä yhdessä tilassa tapahtuvalle elokuvalle. Se antaa tutkimusaiheelleni historiallisen raamin ja kertoo, että yhteen tilaan sijoitetulla draamalla on pitkät perinteet. Kamarielokuva voidaan nähdä kamariteatterin jatkumoa, ja tätä ilmaisumuotoa ovat hyödyntäneet monet tunnetut elokuvantekijät. Kamarielokuva-termiä käytetään nykyään harvoin. Elokuvan ilmaisumuodot ovat laajentuneet kamarielokuvien kulta-ajasta ja monipuolistuneet sitten 1900-luvun alun. Pohdin tässä opinnäyteyössä myös kamarielokuvan termin käyttöä. Esimerkiksi, voitaisiinko puhua nykyään yksitilallisesta elokuvasta. Kamarielokuvalla on teatteriin kytköksissä olevat perinteet ja se terminä viit-taa kamariin, eli huoneeseen. Tutkimukseni keskeinen johtopäätös on, että elokuvan päähahmo joutuu muuttumaan rajatussa tilassa. Kuten tämän opinnäytetyön esimerkkieloku-vassa 12 Angry Men, päähahmon on muutettava muut samassa tilassa olevat hahmot. Suljettu ja rajattu tila, missä elokuva tapahtuu, on samalla muutok-sen tila. Rajatussa tilassa hahmot joutuvat kohtamaan vääjäämättömän muu-toksen. Kun hahmot elokuvan lopussa pääsevät tilasta ulos, muutos on tapah-tunut, ja elämä on muuttunut lopullisesti. Draama-analyysin metodina käytän professori Raija Talvion Matkalla kohti-kirjan (2021) mukaista analyysia, jossa elokuva puretaan kolmeen näytökseen ja kahdeksaan jaksoon. Lopuksi vertaan analyysin tuloksia muutamien vertai-levien elokuvien kanssa.In this thesis I study a film that takes place in a single space and its dramatic structure. The example film of the study and the subject of the dramatic analysis is the classic film 12 Angry Men (1957) directed by Sidney Lumet. The focus of the study is on the dramatic structures of a film set in a single space. I review briefly the history of the chamber film, which serves as a historical definition for the cinema in a single space. It provides a historical framework for my research topic and shows that drama in one space has a long tradition. The chamber film can be seen as a continuation of the chamber theatre, and this form of expression has been used by many well-known filmmakers. The term 'chamber film' is rarely used today. The film forms of expression have expanded since the golden age of chamber films and diversified since the beginning of the 20th century. In this thesis, I also consider the use of the term 'chamber film'. For example, whether one could speak of a film in single space today. Chamber film has a tradition linked to the theatre and as a term refers to a chamber, or room. The main conclusion of my research is that the main character in a film in a single space is forced to change. As in the example film 12 Angry Men in this thesis, the main character must transform other characters in the same space. In a confined space, the characters are faced with inevitable change. By the time the characters emerge at the end of the film, the change has taken place and life has changed forever. As a method of dramatic analysis, I use the analysis by Professor Raija Talvio's book Matkalla kohti (2021), which breaks the film down into three acts and eight episodes. Finally, I compare the results of the analysis with comparative films.Description
