Abstract
The most common way in growing or the development of urban scale in Thailand is where the city fabrics growing spontaneously. The way it grows is where the utilities and facilities are growing along in a linear form. In general, it means the city expand along the main roads, where there is connection between the cities or towards the remote areas. This type of expansion has affected to the migration from the neighboring provinces. The growing size of economy is relating to the residential area and changing of land use. The requirement for more housing area is affect relatively to the urban expansion. Here, at the eastern side of Surin province is also one of the examples from many parts of Thailand. The urban context of this area combines 3 mega stores, schools and business area; all these are locating along the main street from the city center toward the eastern side. By the ring road of the province there are a few medium size factories. The surrounding of the site location is the combination of low-rise residential buildings, large area of rice field and the forest. This development project of the residential block in Surin is aimed to develop one part of existing land plots, in a low-density residential area of Surin's suburban. In order to create a housing block that would fulfill the future requirement or to support the bigger amount of population that has been increasing to this part of town and to improve living conditions. One of the most important, in order to make the best result for that certain building location, is to develop ideas in architectural design so that the architecture fully take advantage of what there already is in the project, e.g. climate, history and culture of the location. In terms of architectural design of this project, I aimed to reflect patterns and characteristic of the vernacular residential building in North-eastern Thailand throughout the design of the architecture. The importance of this project is where the outcome shall convey the touch and spirits of vernacular architecture through the elements of architecture such as forms, materials and functions. I use the most common ideal of functions that suits best for Thai residential. That has a combination of group of buildings, which is similar to the ordinary layout of Thai house. I added up functions that would help to improve the living conditions that could apply to the housing project in the suburban of Thailand. I've combined part of my knowledge from my previous experience and applied it to the building system. The idea is to improve the structural design that would be suitable at most to the location. And furthermore, the design of building element that would alternate the idea to solve the problem of the heat in the building by associating it with natural ventilation. There're mainly 2 parts in this booklet of my Diploma work. In the first part you will find general information of project background, some facts about climate and about Thai architecture. Another important part of information is about building regulations in Thailand. The second part of booklet is the design itself. That is the combination of the drawings guiding you to how I have developed and solved the problems relating to the site criteria and climate for this development project of residential block in Surin, Thailand.Description
