Abstract

Habits and rituals are present in our lives from the moment we wake up until the moment we go to bed. They structure our everyday life and mediate our relationship with our environment and all the objects in it. However, in my opinion, habits and rituals remain relatively unexplored from a design perspective. They deserve a more profound study to help understand how we establish relationships with our objects, connections that ultimately affect our ways of consumption. The present study explores how designers might use habits and rituals in new product development, not only as a design strategy in itself but as a method to implement other user-centered design strategies.
