Abstract

This Master's thesis has been done by an assignment of Bosch Rexroth AG for Automation exhibition of Science centre Heureka. Its aim was to design and build one of the exhibits, a robot application. The project has been planned together with the personnel of Heureka and Bosch Rexroth agents. Apart from the limited time for planning, the only design limits were components, a 6-axis articulated robot and a machine vision system. Other issues taken into account in plans were the robot's unusual environment, special user group and extremely tight safety requirements. The written part of the work brings together financial plans of industrial production for automation products, as well as special features of robot applications. The case Heureka works as an example of planning and implementation project. The thesis should help the designers and engineers of Bosch Rexroth Ag with future robot projects. The 6-axis robot become available on the markets concurrently with the project and it makes its first appearance as a new robot technology field for the company. Interfaces between the robot control and machine vision were tested for the first time during this project. Because of projects special characteristics, the principles of the planning process of the robot application were unconventional. Basics, like origination phase with different concepts, detailed planning, prototype, final constructions and tests were still included to the process. However, financial or economical calculations were not carried out because there were no productional goals like in normal industrial robot applications. As a whole, the final result "Race with the robot" has awakened interest especially among the young and non-technical visitors of Heureka. It has given a new perspective for automation and made it as a part of everyday life. After six month observation time, aims of the work seem to be achieved. For the author the project has given an opportunity to design and build an exception solution and to get acquainted with different fields of engineering. The positive feedback of the young visitors has been straight and honest and thus given a special kind of importance.

Tämä työ on tehty Bosch Rexroth Oy:n toimeksiannosta tiedekeskus Heurekan Automaatio-näyttelyyn. Tarkoituksena oli suunnitella ja rakentaa yksi näyttelyn kohteista, robottisovellus. Työ suunniteltiin yhdessä Heurekan henkilöstön ja Bosch Rexrothin edustajien kanssa. Ainoina rajoittavina tekijöinä olivat lyhyen suunnitteluajan lisäksi käytössä olevat komponentit: 6-akselinen nivelvarsirobotti sekä siihen liitetty konenäköjärjestelmä. Huomioitavia seikkoja suunnittelussa olivat kuitenkin myös robotin sijoittaminen täysin sen normaalista poikkeavaan ympäristöön, erityskäyttäjäryhmä ja äärimmäisen tiukat turvallisuusvaatimukset. Työn kirjalliseen osaan koottiin teollisen tuotannon ja automatisoinnin suunnittelun taloudelliset näkökohdat sekä robottisovellusten erityispiirteet. Heurekan case esimerkin avulla kirjattiin suunnittelun vaiheet ja projektin lapavienti. Työn on tarkoitus toimia jatkossa Bosch Rexrothin robottiprojekteissa suunnittelun apuna. Kohteena ollut robotti oli työn tekohetkellä juuri markkinoille tullut ja uusi aluevaltaus Rexrothin robottibisneksessä. Huomioitavana osana työtä oli konenäön liittäminen ko. robottiin, mikä tehtiin työssä ensimmäisiä kertoja. Työn erikoisen luonteen vuoksi sovelluksen suunnittelu ei varsinaisesti edennyt täysin perinteisen robottisovellus- tai automaatiosuunnitteluperiaatteiden mukaisesti. Perusasiat, kuten valmisteluvaihe eri konseptivaihtoehtoineen, yksityiskohtainen suunnittelu, prototyyppi, lopullisen sovelluksen rakentaminen ja testaus kuitenkin käytiin läpi. Taloudelliset laskelmat jäivät kuitenkin projektin toteutuksesta, sillä lähtökohtana ei ollut tuotannollinen robottisovellus. Kokonaisuutena työn lopputulos, "Pelaa robottia vastaan", on herättänyt kiinnostusta Heurekan vierailijoissa ja tuonut omalta osaltaan uutta näkökulmaa ja arkipäiväisyyttä automaatioon erityisesti nuorten ja ei-teknisten ihmisten keskuuteen. Puolen vuoden seuranta-ajan jälkeen, työlle asetetut tavoitteet näyttävät toteutuneen kiitettävästi. Tekijälleen se on antanut mahdollisuuden osallistua epätavalliseen suunnittelu- ja rakentamisprojektiin sekä tutustua tekniikan eri osa-alueisiin. Nuorten näyttelyvieraiden antama positiivinen palaute on ollut suoraa ja rehellistä ja antanut työlle oman arvonsa.
