Road map for design engineering company in China

Abstract

This master's thesis mainly studies the historical and current situation of China's paper engineering industry, compared to Western engineering industry. The main goal of this thesis is to summarize the suggestions for engineering companies to operate in China.

In the literature survey part of this study, the current situation of the Chinese market and the effects of Chinese culture on the engineering projects in the pulp and paper industry is briefly analyzed, followed by the planning and execution procedures of the Chinese engineering company. The history of the development of the engineering field in China is reviewed. In addition, the pricing strategy of the Chinese engineering company is summarized in principle. On contrast, the planning and execution procedures of the Western engineering company is described by both the life-cycle and the operating procedures.

It should be noted that only the standards and regulations at the national level are studied, as the local regulations and standards varies by the provinces and cities, which are defined according to the national laws and regulations as well as the local situations. The experimental part firstly studies two cases in China for clients of Chinese and Western paper companies respectively. According to the two cases and the interviews to the industrial professionals, the comparison of the procedures between the Chinese and Western engineering are summarized. Finally, based on the differences of the operations in Chinese and Western ways, the suggestions of the engineering company in China are summarized, with the analysis of the potential market to be developed in.
