Abstract

Employee well-being is something that every company should consider since it is something that affects directly to the performance of any organization (Vesterinen, 2006: 84). In this single case study, I investigate well-being issues in a company operating in the field of security. It had been observed by the organization that employees in one of its departments were not satisfied based on employee surveys. The goal of this research is to find out what kind of challenges the employees have had concerning their well-being and what kind of wishes they have for the future. The case company is going through some changes in its management at the time of this study, so it could be easier to implement changes if they are considered necessary after this research. This research consists of theoretical framework defining well-being and presenting ways to measure it. Theoretical background also covers the field of management by presenting qualities and actions of an ideal manager. This study was conducted with qualitative interviews of the employees working in the case company. Based on the interviews, an analysis of the current state of employee well-being was drawn. Also, recommendation for the future manager were made based on the wishes that the interviewees stated in the interviews. The goal of this research was to find out the challenges the employees of the case company are experiencing in their well-being and come up with solutions that could improve the situation. The focus was on management since the organization is going through changes in its management team at the time when this study was conducted. After the interviews it could be stated that the biggest issues in well-being (insecurity, not taking employees seriously, absence) are something that the manager can have an impact on. And when it comes to the future, it was evident that the employees have certain expectations towards their new leaders.
