Abstract
Opinnäytetyö käsittelee dokufiktiota ja sitä, kuinka elokuvantekijä voi käyttää luontosuhdetta elokuvansa lähteenä. Tutkimuksen lähdemateriaalina käytetään mm. Chloé Zhaon ohjaamia elokuvia "Songs My Brothers Taught Me" (2015) ja "the Rider" (2017), Kirsikka Paakkisen ohjaamaa dokumentaarista lyhytelokuvaa "When the Mill Hill Trees Spoke to Me" (2021) sekä Inga Pohjolaisen ohjaamaa dokufiktio-lyhytelokuvaa "Mammutti" (2023). Lisäksi tutkimuksessa perehdytään dokufiktiota, dokumenttielokuvaa ja luontosuhdetta käsitteleviin kirjallisiin lähteisiin. Opinnäytetyössä tutkitaan dokufiktion määritelmää ja ilmenemismuotoja ja avataan sen tekoprosessin liittyviä, dokufiktiolle ominaisia piirteitä elokuvan idean syntymisen, käsikirjoituksen kirjoittamisen, henkilöhahmojen ja kuvauslokaatioiden valitsemisen, kuvausperiodin, leikkausvaiheen sekä elokuvan taustalla vaikuttavien, eettisten vaateiden kautta. Opinnäytetyössä syvennytään pohtimaan luontosuhteen vaikutusta elokuvantekoon ja sen hyödyntämistä dokufiktion lähteenä eri työvaiheissa. Lisäksi työssä käsitellään, millaisia hyötyjä ja rajoitteita biosentrinen lähestymistapa luo elokuvanteolle.This thesis examines the concept of docufiction and how a filmmaker can use the relationship with nature as a muse for their film. The main references for the research are the films "Songs My Brothers Taught Me" (2015) and "the Rider" (2017) directed by Chloé Zhao, the documentary short film "When the Mill Hill Trees Spoke to Me" (2021) directed by Kirsikka Paakkinen, and the docufiction short film "Mammutti" (2023) directed by Inga Pohjolainen. In addition, the research examines literary sources about docufiction, documentary films and their relationship with nature. The thesis explores the definition and different forms of docufiction and studies the characteristics of the process behind making one. These characteristics are: generating the idea for a docufiction, writing a docufiction-script, finding the characters and shooting locations, navigating the shooting period, editing, and the ethical questions surrounding the production of a docufiction. The thesis considers the impact of the relationship with nature on filmmaking and nature as a source for the docufiction process in the different work phases. In addition, the work discusses what kind of benefits and limitations a biocentric approach can have on filmmaking.Description
