Abstract
Artistic research of Open Wound, a process-based animation short film rooted on the author's personal experience. The narrative explores the journey of self-acceptance concerning her own body and reproductive system set in a fast-paced society that often disregards individual rhythms and wellbeing needs. The artistic work aims to shed light on the challenges that women can experience when there are abnormal menstrual cycles; going from physically incapacitating pain to the lack of adequate medical assistance, delving the social reception that women experience and the emotional consequences that can be encountered. This is accompanied by an investigation into the provision of proper treatment to women, and countering the tabu and society’s stigma on women’s menstrual cycle suffering. Using a self-therapeutic approach, all these elements are integrated and described in the artistic work reaching a confronting yet poetic narration.Description
