Abstract

This thesis focuses on a changing nature of workplace designs due to the entry of Generation Z into the global job market; these individuals account for roughly 30% of the world population and are estimated to make up 27% of workforce by 2025 (WEF, 2021). The change in employee composition therefore makes it essential to analyze how Gen Z is influencing workplace design. In recent times, there has been an increasing interest among academics and professionals on Generation Z as they join labor force. However, while existing literature is exploring such topics as Gen Z and their digital fluency, need for flexibility at work, little has been done on how these insights translate into workplace design. This thesis aims to bridge that gap with specific suggestions for interior design which best suits Generation Z employees’ needs and preferences. This research will focus on understanding how Generation Z’s unique characteristics and preferences are shaping the future of commercial interior design specifically in office spaces. The research will employ a mixed-method approach including a review of literature and conducting interviews. This project aims to come up with a set of practical design guidelines suited for Gen Z tastes, contributing to creating better workplace environments. These results are beneficial to employers and designers since they provide insights on how to make spaces that enhance productivity and satisfaction among Gen Z workers.
