Abstract

The Night’s Imaginarium: on the hyperreality of sleep paralysis” is an art project about sleep paralysis. Sleep paralysis is a neurological phenomenon during sleep where sleepers experience a state in-between wakefulness and dreaming and are unable to move. This experience often gets accompanied by fear and frightening hallucinations. The art work opens up the discussion about reality and in what way the medium of photography can be used as a tool to visualize sleep paralysis in the best way. The question about what is real or not and the estrangement of reality is the focus of this project.
