Abstract
The digital transformation of power plants is a crucial aspect for the achievement of sustainability objectives in the energy sector. Energy generation is a carbon-intensive activity, and the exploitation of data for optimising the performance of this industry is essential. This thesis investigates the potential of the Platform Ecosystem concept, studied in the strategy discipline, in enhancing the digital transformation of power generation facilities. A multidisciplinary approach has been employed to explore the applicability of the ecosystem-based value system to the industrial context of power generation plants. The case study has been performed through an immersive research approach. The findings indicate that the development of a digital platform ecosystem for power generation facilities could significantly improve the interoperability and data integration within the plant and facilitate the cooperation among the multiple actors working at the facility , leading to more efficient operations and plant management. The study suggests that the adoption of a platform ecosystem model could facilitate a more robust digital transformation of power plants, potentially setting a new standard for the industry. Leading the development of a digital platform ecosystem for power plants could be a strategic choice for the case company in order to expand their service business and become more recognised in the digital area other than in the manufacturing one.Description
