Tuotekehitysprojektin projektinhallinta

Abstract

Projektinhallinta on oleellinen tuotekehitysprojektin läpivientiä. Tässä diplomityössä käsitellään tuotekehitysprojektien projektinhallinnan teoriaa ja sen soveltamista erään yrityksen tuotekehitysosastolla. Kohdeyrityksen tuotekehitysprojektien projektinhallinnan ongelmat ovat olleet hyvin tyypillisiä: projektit on aloitettu ennen kuin päämäärä on ollut selvä, aikataulut eivät ole pitäneet eikä projektin todellisia kustannuksia ole tunnettu. Työn tavoitteena on löytää ratkaisuja edellä mainittuihin ongelmiin ja tehostaa tulevien tuotekehitysprojektin läpivientiä kehittämällä projektinhallinnan menetelmiä.

Työn tutkimusmenetelminä on käytetty kirjallisuuskatsausta ja tapaustutkimusta. Työn tavoite ja yrityksen projektihallinnan lähtötaso huomioon ottaen kirjallisuuskatsauksen aineistoksi on valikoitunut pääasiallisesti kirjoja, ei niinkään tutkimusartikkeleja. Tapaustutkimus suoritettiin röntgenhoitajan työaseman tuotekehitysprojektin yhteydessä. Projektin aikana kehitettiin uusi tuote aitoon asiakastarpeeseen ja arvioitiin kirjallisuuskatsauksessa esiin tulleiden menetelmien sovellettavuutta kohdeyrityksen tarpeisiin.

Työn lopputuloksena on esitetty lista yritykselle suositelluista toimenpiteistä tuotekehitysosaston projektitoiminnan tehostamiseksi.

Project management is a crucial part of product development projects. The purpose of this master’s thesis is to explore the theory of the project management and its applicability to the needs of the product development department of the target company. The problems in the target company have been very typical: projects have been started before target is clear, schedules have not been met and costs of the product development projects have been unknown. The goal of this study is to find solutions to the above mentioned problems and streamline execution of the future projects by developing the methods of project management.

Literature review and case research were used as research methods. Case research was performed during the execution of the product development project of a new radiographer’s workstation. Project succeeded to introduce a real product which meets customer needs as well as target cost. During the case research applicability of the different project management methods were evaluated.

As a result of this master’s thesis a list of improvements to the project management practices is stated.
