Abstract
Objectives The main objectives of this study were to compare and analyze the use of solid biomass ie. wood in heating in Finland and Bavaria and analyze the factors behind differences in their heating mixes. Summary Finland and Bavaria have roughly the same emissions mitigation and green economy goals, but they have different methods to reach them. As Finland relies heavily on solid biomass, Bavarian legislation puts limits on its use as wood combustion is a major particulate matter source. Conclusions Governmental policies and the economic structure of the area affect greatly the solid biomass use, as Finland’s larger share of it can be explained with the raw material available and legislation regarding PM emissions.Description
