Abstract

Over the last decade, data spaces have emerged as a capable infrastructure for interoperable and sovereign data sharing. This thesis investigated the integration between the com2m IoT platform developed by adesso SE and data spaces using a Data Space Connector. After evaluating several Data Space Connector implementations, the EDC-based adesso Connector was selected for its robust in-house support. A proof-of-concept was then designed and implemented, connecting the com2m IoT platform and the Connector via an intermediary service, which aggregates and transforms com2m data into a format suitable for sharing in a data space. In addition, three com2m-specific policies were developed that restrict query parameters set by consumers during data transfer. A key challenge addressed in this thesis was the enforcement of these policies, which is not natively supported by EDC-based Connectors. To overcome this limitation, the Connector was supplemented with a custom access control extension that validates query parameters against negotiated policies. Finally, a simulated case study on wind park data sharing successfully demonstrated the feasibility of the proof-of-concept. While additional work is needed to consider multi-tenancy, ensure scalability, and evaluate real-world scenarios, this thesis establishes a strong foundation for future development.
