Abstract

This thesis studies utilization of thermal end energy of flue gases in combined heat and power plants. Flue gas losses are the most significant part of the boilers total losses and therefore they also have a major effect on overall efficiency of power plants. A study was carried out which concentrated on the means of utilizing the thermal end energy of the flue gases and how its use affects the operating expenses of a power plant. This study examined the features of flue gases and the factors affecting the amount and temperature of flue gases. The study was divided into three parts: decreasing the exit temperature of the flue gases, use of a flue gas scrubber and drying of bio fuels by the thermal end energy of the flue gases. Effects of the three possible solutions were studied as case studies at the power plants of Vaskiluodon Voima Oy in Vaasa and Seinäjoki. Boiler and turbine balance models were generated for both power plants. Pöyry Finland Oy's software Kattas 3.2 was used to generate boiler balance models and the Tursim- software was used for turbine models. A short description of each power plant was made to show their characteristics and the most important components. Since the two power plants differ greatly from each other, some of the three solutions were investigated only in one of the power plants. The study shows that savings were achieved with lower fuel and emission allowance costs, increased electricity production and decreased electricity consumption of auxiliary equipments. Decreasing the exit temperature of the flue gases proved to be the most practical solution, however with some uncertainties related to the acid dew point. Considerable savings were also achieved with a flue gas scrubber and bio fuel drying. However, the payback period of the last two solutions was highly dependent on the market prices of fuel, electricity and emission allowance costs. These results can be used to estimate the profitability of energy efficiency investments in power plants of the same kind.

Tässä diplomityössä tarkastellaan savukaasujen loppulämmön hyödyntämistä yhteistuotantovoimalaitoksissa. Savukaasuhäviö on ylivoimaisesti suurin höyrykattiloiden häviön aiheuttaja ja se vaikuttaa olennaisesti voimalaitoksen hyötysuhteeseen. Työn tavoitteena oli tarkastella, kuinka savukaasujen loppulämpöä voidaan hyödyntää ja miten loppulämmön käyttö vaikuttaa voimalaitoksen käyttötalouteen. Työssä tarkasteltiin savukaasujen määrään ja lämpötilaan vaikuttavia tekijöitä sekä savukaasujen ominaisuuksia. Savukaasujen loppulämmön käytön tarkastelu jakautuu kolmeen pääosa- alueeseen, jotka ovat savukaasujen loppulämpötilan alentaminen, savukaasupesurin käyttö ja biopolttoaineen kuivaus savukaasujen lämpöenergialla. Ratkaisujen vaikutuksia tarkasteltiin Vaskiluodon Voima Oy:n Vaasan ja Seinäjoen voimalaitoksilla. Voimalaitoksista tehtiin kattilatase- sekä turbiinitasemallit tarkasteluja varten. Kattilataselaskentaan käytettiin Pöyry Finland Oy:n Kattas 3.2- ohjelmaa ja turbiinitaseet mallinnettiin Tursim- ohjelmistolla. Voimalaitoksista on esitetty lyhyet prosessikuvaukset, joissa selvitetään laitosten luonnetta sekä tärkeimpiä komponentteja. Voima- laitokset ovat tekniikaltaan täysin erilaisia, joten savukaasujen loppulämmön käytön kaikkia kolmea vaihtoehtoa ei tarkasteltu molemmilla voimalaitoksilla. Tutkimus osoittaa, että taloudellista hyötyä laskettaessa säästöt muodostuivat polttoaine- sekä päästöoikeuskustannusten pienentymisestä, sähkön lisätuotannosta ja pienentyneestä omakäyttösähkötehosta. Savukaasujen loppulämpötilan alentaminen oli ratkaisuista helpoiten toteutettava. Happokastepisteen määritys tosin toi tarkasteluun ja loppulämpötilan laskun suuruuteen epävarmuutta. Savukaasupesurilla ja biopolttoainekuivurilla saavutettiin myös merkittäviä kustannussäästöjä. Investointien takaisinmaksuajat olivat niiden kohdalla kuitenkin suuret ja riippuivat olennaisesti sähkön, polttoaineen sekä päästöoikeuksien hintatasosta. Tulosten avulla voidaan alustavasti arvioida vastaavanlaisten energiatehokkuusinvestointien kannattavuutta samantapaisilla voimalaitoksilla.
