Abstract

Diplomityössä selvitettiin alaraajojen venytysluudutuslaitteen voimanlähteen vaatimukset keskittyen tarvittavaan voimantuottoon, jonka arvoksi saatiin 800 - 2000 N. Voimanlähteen vaatimusmäärittelyn jälkeen selvitettiin, voidaanko vaatimukset täyttää käyttäen magnetostriktiivista materiaalia. Tämä selvitys tehtiin kirjallisuuskatsauksen avulla sekä suunnittelemalla magnetostriktiivisen materiaalin karakterisointiin sopiva laitteisto ja suorittamalla materiaalin karakterisointi käyttäen tätä laitteistoa. Karakterisoinnista saatiin tuloksena tarvittava kenttä, jotta materiaalia voitaisiin käyttää venytysluudutuslaitteen voimanlähteenä. Vaadittavaksi kentäksi saatiin 100 - 200 mT. Käyttäen tätä kentän arvoa suunniteltiin materiaalin käytön venytysluudutuslaitteen voimanlähteen hoitokäytössä mahdollistava magneettikela. Kelan suunnittelun jälkeen suunniteltiin sen tehonsyöttö sekä tehonsyötön ohjaus. Tehonsyöttö toteutettiin käyttäen kaupallisia virtalähteitä ja ohjaus käyttäen mikrokontrolleria. Tämän lisäksi diplomityössä esitellään tehonsyötön toteutus käyttäen akustoa ja kondensaattoreja, jotka mahdollistavat suuremman virran syöttämisen magneettikelalle ja täten suuremman magneettivuontiheyden. Kotihoitolaitteen suunnittelun jälkeen siitä saatava magneettivuontiheys mitattiin. Tehonsyötön rajoitteista johtuen kotihoitolaitteen magneetti-vuontiheys jäi noin 110 milliteslaan. Diplomityön tuloksena saatiin, että halkaisijaltaan noin 7 millimetrin Terfenol-D elementillä, jonka pituus on 120 millimetriä, pystytään täyttämään hoidon vaatimukset. Tällöin käytettäessä 100 - 110 milliteslan kenttää venymä tosin jää noin 100 mikrometriin, mikä tekee venytysluudutuslaitteen koneiston suunnittelun haasteelliseksi. Koti-hoitolaitteen tehonsyötön toteuttaminen akustolla tai kondensaattoreilla mahdollistaa 200 mT:n vuontiheyden saavuttamisen, mikä nostaa saatavan venymän noin 150 mikrometriin.

In this master's thesis the requirements of a power source for lower limb distraction osteogenesis were determined. The result was that the required force output is between 800 - 2000 N. After the derivation of requirements the possibility of fulfilling these requirements using a magnetostrictive material were assessed. The assessment was done with a literature study and by designing test setups for the determination of the elongation properties of the magnetostrictive alloy. The required field for the usage of the material was found to be 100 - 200 mT. After this a magnetic coil that could be used in the treatment of lower limb length discrepancies using a magnetostrictive alloy was designed. In addition to designing the coil the required power source for the coil was also designed along with the required control electronics. The power source for the coil was realized using commercial power supplies but in addition to this the design principles for a power source using condensators and batteries. The performance of both the coil and electronics were measured. Due to the limitations in the available power through a common household power socket the magnetic field strength in the coil was only 110 mT. As a result of the master's thesis it was found out that a Terfenol-D rod with a diameter of 7 millimeters and a length of 120 millimeters is capable of fulfilling the requirements of the distraction osteogenesis treatment. Although then by using only 100 - 110 mT field strength the strain is only 100 µm which makes the designing of the mechanism for the lengthening of the implant very challenging. By realizing the power source for the magnetic coil by using the condensators or batteries introduced in this master's thesis it is possible to reach 200 mT field strength which would allow a magnetostrictive strain of approximately 150 µm
