Abstract
This thesis aims to develop a detailed and descriptive plan for the establishment of a new museum that will exhibit the Vietnamese Royal Antiquities in a comprehensive and organized manner. The proposed museum will be a replacement for the old Hue Museum of Royal Antiquities, which faced a severe space constraint and failed to provide a comprehensive educational experience about the Nguyen Dynasty and its cultural heritage, including their recognized antiques and treasures that are considered national treasures.
The thesis begins by conducting an in-depth historical research analysis, exploring the early Nguyen Dynasty and investigating the social developments that led to the formation of the Nguyen Dynasty Government. The research will provide a detailed understanding of the historical events and related documents, which will be permanently displayed in the museum’s exhibition. The exhibition will provide a visual and descriptive experience that will help visitors to grasp the significance of the artefacts.
Moreover, the thesis highlights the origins of the current museum, its context, and stages of development and emphasizes the need for a new museum that can serve as a cultural centre to educate visitors about the rich history and heritage of the Nguyen Dynasty. After presenting the context of the Museum of Antiquities, the thesis provides several reference projects on museum design that have similar relationships between historical artefacts and architecture. These reference projects will assist in designing a museum that can provide an immersive and interactive experience for visitors.
In addition, the thesis presents the site and context of the museum building, providing an introduction to Hue City in Central Vietnam, its surrounding buildings, and its landscape. The final part of the thesis focuses on museum design, emphasizing the need for a new museum to protect national antiquities and provide an educational space for younger generations. The thesis further highlights the need to incorporate modern technologies and interactive exhibits to provide an engaging and descriptive learning experience for visitors.
