Abstract

Today, with the rapid advancement of new technologies, space tourism is becoming increasingly affordable and safe. Private companies such as SpaceX, Virgin Galactic, Orion Span, and others are swiftly propelling the development of space tourism. In this context, there is a growing focus on experiential space tourism. However, when we examine existing spacecraft, they are characterized by cramped spaces, complex environments, and monotonous lifestyles, which are ill-suited for providing tourists with an enjoyable experience. Currently, there are very few spacecraft specifically designed for recreational and entertainment purposes. Architects, drawing from their expertise in designing human habitats on Earth, are well-positioned to leverage their skills in space design. By collaborating with scientists and engineers, architects can explore feasible and foreseeable technological conditions to create spacecraft that prioritize the entertainment experience for tourists. This project will attempt to employ a bottom-up design approach, starting from an understanding of human lifestyles in a microgravity environment. By integrating existing technologies, it will explore potential recreational activities and design appropriate spaces for these activities. The ultimate goal is to design a space tourism station in low Earth orbit that caters to the entertainment experience of tourists.
