A creative process of Losing and Finding

Abstract

This thesis is a report of my research, reflections and findings that were a result of the creative process of developing and producing a virtual reality experience. The project named “Lost and Found” was created as part of the European Joint Master in Animation, ReAnima, and reflects themes related to loss, emotions and mental health.

In this journey first I went through researching the mirror as a metaphor for reflection and empathy and what VR as a new medium can bring to tell stories. Then you will see my reflections on interpreting stories and how I have interpreted the narrative of my project. In the end I am explaining the intuitive process with which I managed to create this project, and how that helped me to “create from the center of my being” as an artist.

This thesis can be a useful document for future artists that want to see examples of different ways of shaping the idea and the final result of their work. Especially in the context of creation of projects aimed to be presented in a virtual reality environment.
