Abstract
Achieving success in projects is vital for a software consulting company in order to stand out amongst competitors. In this thesis, I investigate a case company from the software consulting field, focusing on their utilization of kickoffs, retrospectives and agile project management practices as specified in the company's ways of working guidelines, and the perceived effect of these practices on project success. Utilizing qualitative semi-structured interviews, I first figure out a definition for project success in the context of the case company through interviewing five people in managerial positions, and then interview five people from five different projects about the aforementioned practices and their perceived effect on the projects' success. The results indicate that while these practices alone do not guarantee project success, the interviewees felt that there was definitely a positive effect on it. Based on the results of the study, I propose a couple of improvements to the company's ways of working guidelines. Additionally, the results from the first round of interviews provide insights on how project success could be measured in the context of a software consulting company.Onnistuminen projekteissa on elintärkeää ohjelmistokonsultointiyritykselle, joka haluaa erottua kilpailijoistaan. Tässä opinnäytetyössä tutkin tapausyritystä ohjelmistokonsultoinnin alalta, tutkien heidän kickoffien, retrospektiivien ja ketterien projektinhallintamenetelmien hyödyntämistä siten, kun ne on yrityksen työskentelytapaohjeissa määritelty, ja näiden menetelmien vaikutusta projektien onnistumiseen. Hyödyntäen laadullisia puolistrukturoituja haastatteluja, selvitän ensin määritelmän projektien onnistumiselle tapausyrityksen kontekstissa haastattelemalla viittä johtoasemassa olevaa henkilöä, ja sen jälkeen haastattelen viittä ihmistä viidestä eri projektista edellä mainituista menetelmistä ja niiden vaikutuksesta projektien onnistumiseen. Tuloksista käy ilmi, että vaikka nämä menetelmät yksinään eivät pysty takaamaan projektien onnistumista, niin haastateltavat kuitenkin kokivat, että niillä on selvästi positiivista vaikutusta siihen. Tulosten perusteella ehdotan joitain parannuksia yrityksen työskentelytapaohjeisiin. Lisäksi ensimmäisen haastattelukierroksen tulokset tarjoavat käsitystä siitä, miten projektien onnistumista voidaan mitata ohjelmistokonsulttiyrityksen kontekstissa.Description
