Abstract

The topic of this thesis is design, development and successful testing of application layer of user plane server of Voice over IP (VoIP) prototype, featuring Push-to-Talk over Cellular (PoC) services like instant individual and group calls between users. The prototype is a basic VoIP system implemented using separate control plane server, and user plane server. The control plane is responsible for handling signalling based on SIP (Session Initiation Protocol) protocol, while user plane handles low level processing based on RTP protocol. The communication between control plane and user plane is via MEGACO (Media Gateway Control Protocol) protocol. The thesis work consisted of actual implementation of logic necessary to enable setup, process individual calls, group calls, check user rights to be able to use system, and group attachment related processing. All software processing is implemented in C, C++ over Linux environment. The system was implemented, tested and successfully demonstrated. The result of this work show that it is possible to extend the system concept for further large scale development
