Abstract
The research studies the sustainable transition of the aviation sector, in the light of recent EU climate laws. The new norm of net zero climate goals within the aviation industry, and the EU has brought forth decarbonising ambitions for the aviation industry. The EU introduced an SAF uptake requirement as well as extended the ETS coverage on aviation. The two legislations complement each other as the stricter ETS rules incentivise decarbonizing efforts, including the use of SAF. To address supply-side challenges for novel SAF technology, the use of ETS revenue or another market-based measure funded by the industry can further facilitate the decarbonization efforts.Description
