Abstract
Telmi & Kelmi on suunnitelma uudeksi rantasaunaksi ja juhla- ja kohtaamispaikaksi Otaniemen kampukselle. Rakennus sijoittuu Otarantaan, Espoon rantaraitin varrelle; väistyvän venesataman viereen. Alue on kehittymässä uuden asuinrakentamisen myötä tiiviksi osaksi Teekkarikylää ja Aalto-yliopiston kampusta. Suunnitelma pohjautuu Otarannan ja Servinniemen täydennysrakentamiskaavaan.
Työssä on tutkittu eri sijoitusvaihtoehtoja uudelle rantasaunalle ja esitetään suunnitelma, joka toteuttaa yhteistyössä Aalto-yliopiston ylioppilaskunnan kanssa määritellyn tilaohjelman. Rakennus vastaa kasvavan kampuksen tarpeeseen saada opiskelijoille uusi rantasauna ja juhlatila.
Päääosa kampusalueen saunoista sijaitsee opiskelija-asuntojen yhteydessä taloyhtiösaunoina sekä ulosvuokrattavina saunoina. Toiveena ylioppilaskunnalla on saada alueelle uusi rantaan sijoittuva erillinen saunarakennus, joka mahdollistaa saunomisen lisäksi erilaisten tapahtumien järjestämisen.
Työssä käydään läpi suunnittelun vaiheet ideoinnista luonnosvaiheen kautta suunnitelmaan. Työssä esitellään myös referenssikohteita sekä saunarakennusten ja juhlatilojen osalta. Tilaohjelma on laadittu opiskelijakullttuurin erityispiirteet huomioonottaen. Tärkeänä osana suunnitelmaa on tilojen muuntojoustavuus erilaisiin ja erikokoisiin tapahtumiin.
Lopullisessa suunnitelmassa rakennus on yhdistelmä sitsi- ja juhlatilaa sekä saunatilaa. Tila on mitoitettu vastaamaan Otaniemen opiskelijayhteisön tilatarpeita. Rakennus on ratkaistu kelluvana. Sen sijoitusta perustelee sekä maisemalliset että kokemukselliset syyt. Rakennuksen kahtalainen luonne - saunana ja juhlatilana - tulee esille jo sitä lähetyttäessä. Näennäisen yksinkertainen kahden massan muoto mahdollistaa sekä näkymiä että yksityisyyttä. Rakennusteknisen toteutuksen osalta työssä tutustutaan myös kelluvien rakennusten ominaispiirteisiin.
Työ on toteutettu vapaaehtoisprojektina ja tarkoituksena on toteuttaa rakennus lahjoitusvaroin.
Telmi & Kelmi is a plan for a new seaside sauna, party, and meeting venue at the Otaniemi campus. The building is located in Otaranta, on the Espoon rantaraitti shore route, right next to a soon to be decommisioned small boat harbor. The area is being developed as a residential neighbourhood, and will be closely intertwined with the Teekkarikylä student village and the Aalto University campus. The plan is based on the Otaranta and Servinniemi complementary construction master plan.
Options for situating the building are closely weighed, and the presented building plan fulfils the programme defined in collaboration with the Aalto University Student Union. The building responds to the increased need of event venues on the growing campus.
The majority of the Saunas on campus are located in connection with the condominiums as saunas for the residents, or as rentable spaces for the public. The Student Union hopes to construct a new detached sauna that also serves as a venue for a multitude of events.
This thesis offers a walkthrough of the work from idea phase to drafting, and further continues to the final plan. A set of references for both saunas and event venues has been used. The spatial programme has been created with the peculiarities and traits of student culture in mind. As an important part of the planning process, the flexibility and modifiability of the spaces has been considered to facilitate events of different sizes.
In the final plan presented in this thesis, the building is a combination of a dinner party venue, party venue and sauna. The interior capacity is dimensioned to correspond with the needs of the Otaniemi student community. The edifice presented is floating, and the setting has been chosen for both scenic and experiential reasons. The duality of the building shows itself already when approaching it. The apparent simplicity of the two-part composition permits both scenic views and privacy. The thesis includes an evaluation of characteristics of floating buildings as analysis for the structural execution.
This thesis has been carried out as a voluntary project, and the building is to be built with the help of donations.
